Project Sankofa: A Radical Healing & Mental Wellness Campaign

Project Sankofa is a culturally responsive, healing-centered initiative dedicated to transforming public understanding of mental and behavioral health within the African American community. Funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) for FY 2025–2026, this dynamic, single-year campaign focuses on interrupting mental health stigma, promoting community-defined early intervention pathways, and advancing holistic wellness rooted in radical healing theory.

Through school-based outreach, youth leadership development, interactive healing circles, and a vibrant digital media campaign, Project Sankofa empowers African American youth (ages 12–26), families, faith leaders, and educators to build supportive, trauma-informed environments. In collaboration with strategic partners like Healthy Black Families, the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi), and local wellness programs, the campaign uplifts Black-affirming traditions to foster mental health equity and intergenerational healing.
